Public Health Dentistry
What is Public Health Dentistry?
Public Health Dentistry is one of the nine specialties of dentistry that deals with the prevention of oral disease and promotion of oral health through organized community efforts. The Department of Public Health Dentistry is the buffer between the community and the Institution. A public health dentist is a professional dentist who accesses the environment in communities and develops proficiency in community diagnosis, oral health needs, and institutional dental care. It includes more research on oral health care and general dentistry at the outreach levels.
Why choose us?
Our department acts as a social servicing arm for the community. We have been actively involved in rendering dental treatment, through our well-equipped mobile dental clinic, to the masses of rural areas for whom such treatment has far-fetched and expensive for the last 40 years. This is achieved by conducting free dental treatment camps in rural areas providing basic dental treatment and distributing free medicine to the needy.
Our Mobile Dental van is fitted with a Dental Chair, Sterilization equipment, and treatment trolley. The mobile van is also provided with teaching aids and a public address system. Community oral health programs have been designed with the basic objective of alleviating and preventing the burden of oral diseases in our society. Research work to better understand the oral health behavior patterns and factors affecting oral health has been undertaken in various fields ranging from behavioral sciences to planning oral health care services for the underprivileged groups in the state of Punjab.
